New Heptatis C Drugs

For all the criticism I have for pharmaceutical companies, I do recognize their incredible accomplishments and contributions to our health.  This month, also Hepatitis Awareness Month, 2 new hepatitis C drugs were approved by the Food and Drug Administration – Incivek and Victrelis.

Taken with other drugs in the treatment protocol, they have higher cure rates and decrease the time length for the course of treatment dramatically.

However, they are still unfortunately really expensive (with many news stories focus on the share prices) – which again brings up issues I presented in my Costs to Live series.

Regardless, what a great advancement!  With 170 million people in the world infected with Hep C, these medications will have a huge impact.
